Preliminary judges choosing the 5 finalists
Rockhopper Apps was excited when The Centre for Entrepreneurship Education & Development (CEED), asked us to volunteer as a preliminary judge for the 4th Annual Lobster Pot Pitch Competition on Friday, May 1st 2015. This competition consists of the top 40 high school students’ science fair projects for the province of Nova Scotia. The purpose of the competition was to see which projects might be a viable business idea and a chance to win prizes. This competition is supported by Nova Scotia Department of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism, Centre for Entrepreneurship Education & Development (CEED) and Nova Scotia Youth Experiences in Science.

Rockhoppper Apps’ role was to review ten science fair projects with two other judges and decide which student would be the finalist. Many of these students had interesting innovative ideas. After we chose the finalist, we offered mentoring to the finalist for preparation for the finals. The finalist’s question was in regards to pricing and we advised the finalist to consider the cost of materials and labour, suggested pricing for wholesale and helped with a recommended retail price.

Science Fair Finalists
When the finalist gave the final presentation, one of the judges commented that they gave a lot of great thought to pricing. We felt honoured to have shared great advice to with the finalist. In the end this finalist achieved overall third place.
Rockhoppper Apps enjoyed volunteering for The 4th Annual Lobster Pot Pitch Competition. We are looking forward to volunteering for The 5th Annual Lobster Pot Pitch Competition in 2016.
